Recovering Footsteps of Lost Airmen

A WW2 Air War Tour in the Netherlands

Recovering Footsteps of Lost Airmen is a full-day WW2 air war storytelling tour in the Netherlands, through the reclaimed landscape of Flevoland.

A journey through landscape and memory. You travel through Flevoland, the New Land reclaimed from the former Zuiderzee (Southern Sea), where traces of the Second World War still remain beneath the surface.

You move through a polder landscape shaped by war, land reclamation and human decisions, following the traces of Allied airmen and the people whose lives became connected to theirs.

Some airmen were laid to rest in the Netherlands. Some survived with help from Dutch communities. Many are still missing today. Their presence remains in the landscape.

Moving through the New Land you visit crash sites and memorials, fishing communities, and discover stories of Allied airmen in Flevoland.

Conversations about the stories behind the New Land, featured as a guest in selected podcasts.

A podcast about the tour will be launched in June 2026

“Her personal and in depth knowledge of the history of this region, and its people, made our documentary Guy Martin’s Lost WW2 bomber very special.”
